"Vox Lux" Mom's Rating: D+

Okay, first what kind of title is Vox Lux? What’s that suppose to mean? It’s not till the last third of the movie we learn Vox Lux is the title of the main characters, Celeste, comeback album. It is a collection of sci-Fi genre anthems. Ah ok, what?

And that pretty much sums up this movie.

This movie is almost two separate movies in one. The first half isn’t too bad, it peaks early and fast

We are introduced to 13 year old Celeste just as she and her music classmates are gunned down by a student. Before the shooting begins, Celeste tries to compromise with the shooter. Release her classmates and she would stay and pray with the shooter. Not an option and he starts shooting

Celeste survives, though a bullet is permanently lodged in her neck. At a memorial service for those lost, Celeste and her sister perform an original song dedicated to the dead. The song propels her to stardom in the music industry. But Celeste retains her innocence as the 13 yr old chastises her manager for using profanity.

But then there is a trip to Stockholm to record an album and Celeste begins her life as a pop star. Drinking, sex, partying and a baby soon come. Hard to remember she is still only a teenager

Let’s skip to the second half of this movie, an adult Celeste (31 yrs old) And now portrayed by Natalie Portman. Natalie’s previous movie this year was Annihiliation (of which I was not a fan) and this role does nothing to redeem her casting choices. Just as I asked of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Skyscraper, what were you thinking Natalie?

Celeste is now a techno dance artist-a term used very loosely. And the prolonged concert sequence at the end was tiresome. In a year filled with concert performances ala Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born, this yawner of a performance is embarrassingly not engaging. I don’t even want to think about this movie anymore.

This is a tricky rating. Skyscraper has had a solid grip on worst movie of the year with a D rating. With The Rock’s star power he should of known better, he can’t possibly of needed money so badly to star in that mess. Now Natalie—another bad decision on accepting a role.

You didn’t learn from Annihilation and perhaps you needed the money for the kids college fund.

Rock, it was close but you are safe in your hold of the worst movie to date. Natalie, this was veryyyy close.

Vox Lux is rated D plus. Do not spend any money purchasing a ticket for this movie. Do not use a complimentary ticket on this movie. If you feel you must support Natalie, wait for at least a $1.00 off coupon code for Red Box.I need a drink and a shower to try to forget. Natalie think twice honey.
