Vice is a biopic of sorts of Dick Cheney’s life. The movie opens with Dick, tossed from Yale for failing grades, now a drunken laborer in 1963. Lynn, his girlfriend at the time has bailed him out of jail twice for drunk driving and fighting, and she’s just about done with him. She calls him a “pissed soaked zero." It’s here that he tells Lynn he will never embarrass her again, and he seems focused on their future.
In the following decades Cheney rose from sole congressional Representative from Wyoming, Chief of Staff at the White House, Secretary of Defense, CEO of Halliburton and lastly Vice President
You can’t rise through those ranks without having some dirt in your past. Well Dick Cheney has his PhD In dirty politics. This movie is an education in back stabbing, behind closed door wheeling and dealing, opportunistic, cunning and devious decision making. These decisions were both good and bad for the country, but always good for Cheney’s wallet when it comes to Halliburton
Dick Cheney liked to describe himself as “A dedicated and humble student of power”. There was nothing humble about Cheney, and he graduated from being a student decades ago. They say behind every strong man is a strong woman, well Lynn Cheney is a female mini me of Dick. When entering a holiday party of political big wigs Lynn whispers to Dick “Half the room wants to be us, the other half of the room fears us.” Not going to spill it but Lynn definitely has a favorite daughter and throws the “problem “ daughter under the bus. Keep waiting for that Mothers Day card Lynn.
The vast majority of the players in this movie are still alive, wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall in the Cheney house. With egos the size of Wyoming you know they had to have had seen a preview of this movie. Vice is a relatively quick 2 hours 10 minute adventure, narrated by an unique character.
Vice is rated B minus, fans of politics, conspiracies and that whole Bush era will definitely enjoy this
FYI there is a bedroom scene with Dick and Lynn with foreplay that you will not forget or unsee. You are warned.
