Missing Link is a PG rated animated movie that is just not for kids. Similar to last years “Small Foot” (my rating B for kids, C plus for adults) the animation is stellar, just crazy amazing.
We are introduced to Sir Lionel Frost (voiced by Hugh Jackman) as an adventurer, perhaps more well known for his romantic misadventures than actual discoveries. After blowing his chance of capturing a photo of the Loch Ness monster (so funny a scene the little kid behind me might of wet his pants), he moves on to discovering and documenting a Sasquatch from Washington State.
The Sasquatch, named Mr. Link by Sir Frost is wonderfully voiced by Zack Galifianakis. It seems our Mr. Link actually wrote the letter to Sir Frost, inviting him to “discover” a Sasquatch. What a Sasquatch can write? Yes, he can! And speak English! Why would a Sasquatch write a letter to Sir Frost? Because he is the last of his kind, and lonely. He wants to join his people. And according to wall drawings in his cave, his people are the Yeti in the Himalayas. Sir Frost sees an opportunity to prove not only the existence of Sasquatch but of the Yeti, so he agrees. Can you say road trip!!!
Yes, this is a PG movie but there are lines directed to the adults in the audience.
“How did you get this? From a nun, we mugged her”
“Have you ever wanted something so bad that it hurts inside? Like gas—but sadder.”
Mr. Link coughing up a storm, then says “I feel something in my throat, a nut, or not, perhaps
a field mouse”
The bad Yeti Queen to her troops “The people we don’t like are escaping. Get them and force
them to stay”
The bridge scene at the end might be a bit intense for little kids. I think the kid behind me was asleep by then, so I have no field research on that.
The scenes in the forest and on the steamer ship are just beautiful, technology and computer
animation is our friend.
This is a movie about developing friendships, and putting others needs before your own. And the ending leaves an opening for a sequel, which wouldn’t be a bad thing.
I enjoyed Missing Link a bit more than Small Foot. Perhaps it was the lack of singing Yeti’s
(for sure).
Missing Link is rated B minus for adults and B plus for children.
If you saw “Small Foot” go see this movie, you will absolutely enjoy it. If you didn’t see “Small Foot” you probably won’t see “Missing Link” but definitely rent this on Red Box when it’s available.
