"Little" Mom's Rating: C

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

Our movie opens in 1993 where we meet thirteen year old Jordan Sanders presenting “The Laws of Science” to her middle school. Yes, it’s middle school and Jordan is a nerd, so you know it’s not going to end well for poor Jordan.

Her parent’s response to Jordan’s epic fail, is ”No one bullies the boss.” That sets the tone for Jordan’s future; no one will bully her because she will bully them first.

Flash forward to present day and Jordan is the owner of Jordan Sanders Innovations, where Jordan has been crowned “Atlanta’s Tech Empress”

As successful as she has become, that nerdy middle schooler still has a piece of her, which Jordan hates. She suppresses the inner nerd by being verbally abusive and generally being a bully to all around. Till one day, she picks on the wrong nerdy teen, (what comes around goes around right?) A spell is cast, wishing Jordan was “little” and wouldn’t you know she wakes up the next morning, and it might as well be 1993 all over again, good morning nerd queen. There is nothing original in the premise of this movie; it’s an updated “Big” with an African American cast.

That being said, I did laugh a lot. “Sad? Sad like how your parents felt on the day you were born?” A young black girl is called a “chocolate hogwart” “When you stop eating carbs you start seeing Satan”

Adult Jordan is played by Regina Hall who is perfect in her role. Marsai Martin acts beyond her years as teen Jordan. Her scenes with Mr Marshall, her middle school teacher, are cringe worthy in a good way. Not to be forgotten is April, Jordan’s suffering assistant, who has some of the best lines in the movie.

I liked “Big” and I liked “Little,” there isn’t much to dislike. There isn’t much to rave about

either.

Little is rated C, it’s an average movie. If you have seen the trailers for Little, you’ve basically

seen the movie.

Honestly, don’t pay full price for this. An inexpensive matinee ticket is the most you want to invest in Little. If for some reason you are craving this movie, turn off the lights, order “Big” from Netflix and start drinking your favorite alcoholic beverage. Invest two hours on your comfy couch, and it’s magic, you just saw Little.
