John Wick 3: Parabellum
OMG I truly believe this is the bloodiest movie I have ever seen. The kill count is astronomical, a lot of it by knives. I rented John Wick 2 the night before seeing this, and Parabellum begins immediately after the results of Wick 2.
Keanu Reeves (John Wick) has been declared ex-communicado and now has a $14 million dollar price on his head. It seems everyone on the street is an assassin, the bum in the alley, the musician playing in the subway, the hotdog vendor and the sushi guy all-trying to kill Wick for the $14 million. They eventually up the ante to $15 million and still no success.
This isn’t a dialog driven movie; it’s one action sequence after another to the point of ridiculousness.
I wish there were more scenes like the doctor tending to John’s wounds, or if they spent more time with Angelica Houston’s role or Laurence Fishburn’s Bowery King. Especially the scenes with Hailey Berry, I thought okay we are really watching a movie now, but these scenes are few and far between. These scenes, developing the story and why John was doing what he did, were important.
There is a lot of double-crossing, so there goes the theory of honor among thieves. John’s fellow assassins take a moment to pause between trying to kill each other, to tell him how much they admire him and they can’t believe they are fighting “the” John Wick. Then John did them in, except for two, which I guess will come into play in the next sequel. There will absolutely be a John Wick 4, and we know the premise of that movie already.
I would like to give a shout out to Mark Dacascos, as Zero. Perfect for his role as the assassin tasked by the High Table to take out Wick. His scene with Wick on the couch in the hotel was so good, it made you wish for more. John Wick 3: Parabellum if fast action fight scenes are your thing, you will love this.
Unfortunately, I like some plot with my killing and this does not deliver. If you are a fan of John Wick, you’ve probably seen this already, or are going to see it no matter my rating.
John Wick 3: Parabellum is rated C, for average. I need more dialog, and a few less knives.
