Liam Neeson stars as Nels Coxman, a snowplow driver who keeps the roads open in the ski resort town of Kehoe. He is so good at his job, that he receives the “Kehoe Citizen of the Year Award”. He is a man of few words and ends his thank you speech with this “There are many roads at there, but I was lucky. I picked a good road and stayed on it”
Nice sentiment, but Nels quickly veers off that good road when his son, Kyle, is murdered. It’s a case of mistaken identity by drug dealers at the Denver Airport where Kyle worked as a baggage handler. At first we think Nels wants Justice for Kyle, but Nels veers off Justice Drive and goes straight for Vengeance Boulevard. Soon he’s leaving snowy Kehoe for Denver to find the man responsible for Kyle’s death.
He kills him, the next guy up the drug ladder and the next guy. Now, he’s going after the head of the cartel nicknamed “Viking” Now, Liam has basically been here before, avenging/protecting a loved one. There’s Taken 1, 2 & 3 and Commuter off the top of my head. During this whole killing spree don’t analyze too much (which is a problem for me). Don’t think wouldn’t there be cameras in the store, how do you get a bloody body out of a pristine white bridal salon? How could a snowplow driver get into that party? STOP THINKING.
Thank goodness we have a side plot of a drug war between the two cartels in town. This war between “Viking” and “White Bull” cartels brings an added set of characters that we dearly needed. Liam killing drug dealers and ditching their bodies in the waterfall was getting monotonous.
Laura Dern, as Nel’s wife, has about five minutes of screen time. She knows there isn’t much for her to do, so she packs up and leaves the snowy Rockies behind. We are introduced to Nel’s ex-mob brother Brock aka “Wingman”. Why? I’m not sure, but this jug handle off Vengeance Boulevard is unnecessary.
I am unfortunately learning January and February movies are a dumping ground of mediocre to barely average movies. What’s worse is with our MoviePass expired we are actually paying for disappointment!! Thank goodness for $6 matinees.
Cold Pursuit rated C, is best seen at an inexpensive matinee or better yet at RedBox Do not pay full ticket price unless you are a Liam Neeson freak. If you are said freak, you might have been one of the two other people in the theatre today.
