Updated: Nov 20, 2018

This is a movie that has been hype dup for months with powerful performance trailers by its stars Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. You watch these trailers and you're like, this movie is going to be great, I can't wait to see it.

But, sometimes, the trailers are the best part of the movies and you are kept wanting more from the actual movie and story line. Moviepass actually allowed opening day ticket sales. That never happens anymore. Oh my gosh, this movie might suck, why else would they allow opening day movie sales? Okay, I decided, it was a glass half full kind of day and off we went to the 9:50AM first show of the day.

All I can say is thank goodness we weren't in an IMAX theater because this is a big movie. The cinematography is beautiful. The sound is fabulous. the movie screams big budget production and Academy Awards.

The movie opens with Bradley Cooper's characher, Jackson Maine, an aging country star performing in a huge stadium. He's popping pills and downing tons of booze to get up and make it through the show.

He meets Ally, Lady Gaga, when he stumbles into a gay club where she is performing. He is looking for yet another drink. He finally realized something is off at this bar and asks”Is this a gay club or am I in a hallucinogenic state “. Hello, yes to both Jackson. He is a hit with all the drag queens who persuades him to perform. He asks “What do you want me to play?” The drag queen responds “I don’t care, just look into my eyes when you sing." Jackson is captivated by Ally’s performance and that’s the heart of this movie. He is intrigued with her voice and her storytelling songs. With all her talent, she has been rejected repeatedly and questions her ability. Jackson knows she had the talent to be successful and begins to mentor her, and of course fall in love along the way.

Throughout the movie, Jackson is so encouraging of Ally to develop her talent and success, but he is not taking care of himself. He is boozing and popping pills, the apex of which is falling down drink at the Grammy’s while on stage with Ally as she wins best new artist of the year. But Ally never turns her back on Jackson, even when he goes into months long rehab.

As a viewer, you are so Happy Jackson has it all together dealing with his alcohol and drug addiction. We learn he has been damaged goods from his early childhood and even been suicidal, but he wants a life with Ally, so he has a clear focus of what he needs to do and be. Unfortunately real life his him straight in the face via Ally’s manager and it doesn’t end well. The casting is fabulous, who knew Bradley Cooper is should a great director? Now we all know. This is a movie you’ll want to see more than once, it’s beautifully done and the lyrics of the songs are such a.m. important part of the storyline.

This movie is the total package done so well. A Star is Born is rated A. Go see it, you won’t be disappointed.
